Dōgo Onsen, Japan’s oldest hot spring, is recorded in the ancient Chronicles of Japan. Dōgo Onsen Honkan is a magnet for sightseers in Matsuyama, and to mark the 120th anniversary of this venerable building on April 10, 2014, the city is holding the Dogo Onsenart 2014 art festival. The Dōgo Onsen Honkan building itself will be transformed into an art object, and one guest room at each of nine hotels will be turned into a work of art by renowned artists, in a series of experiential art titled Hotel Horizontal. Exciting daytime and evening art events will also be held in the area, and this will be a prime opportunity to wander around Dōgo, experiencing its charm to the full.
